Yes, Mr. Bush ... ask for a transitional government in Cuba ... but ...

Yes, Mr. Bush ... continue to remind the Cuban people that they can have freedom if they go after it themselves. Keep in mind how Operation Iraqi Liberation (OIL) has gone!

Raul Castro (to his brother, Fidel's right in the picture on the left, above) is said to be more "practical" than his brother, Fidel (the "politician" [sic]). Just maybe we can witness a peaceful transition in line with what our President and others among our leadership in America is suggesting. But whatever, let's not alienate the Cuban people with a preemptive invasion (as an example) after all they have been through over the decades.

We should also recognize that it won't be a total transition to democracy as we know it, but probably accomplished through the less desirable pathway set forth by one revolutionary council or another -- referred to correctly as a "dynastic transition" by our State Department, but a necessary inconvenience -- unless the Cuban people themselves decide that they want to revolt -- as we did against Britain slightly more than 230 years ago.

But to the extent that we can stay out of it actively, we will be regarded more highly by the Cuban people in the decades and centuries to come.

Of course, we would -- and should -- provide logistic and "moral" help to any revolutionaries who would take it upon themselves to rid themselves of the crazy dictatorship under which they've suffered for far too long.
