Lieberman presents a mixed message ... but a teeny step in the right direction.
Senator Joe Lieberman (from the same state as my brother, Richard) said that we should stay in Iraq because we made the mistake of going there in the first place (a.k.a. "two wrongs make a right!"). He then, after his blah-blah-blah on Face the Nation, gave a short news conference (above left) wherein he stated that he thought that Donald Rumsfeld should step down as Secretary of defense.
Not stated in his commentary was his belief (hope!) that he would make an excellent "replacement" for Donald Rumsfeld, should George Bush ask for Rummy to step down -- which would precede the resignation to which Lieberman was alluding.
But still, all in all, it was a step in the right direction and will likely help him win in an even bigger landslide in November as an "Independent" [sic] candidate in Connecticut. Strangely, he seemed to be touting himself as a Democrat during the FTN interview. (Well, why not -- he certainly was a decent Democrat for most of his career; it's only since he joined the "stay the course in Iraq" crowd that he began to vote on other -- than Iraq War related -- issues along Bush lines.)
