Go get 'em, Valerie!
Can she or can't she? The question seems to be whether a sitting Vice President can be sued for damages resulting from his activities as Vice President. Also, there's the question being raised as to whether Valerie Plame was even a secret agent to begin with. Robert Novak (both Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh referred to him as, in effect, the "horse's mouth") says "no!" and the White House (primarily President Bush) said "yes" by implication when he said he'd fire the person or persons involved with her outting. (I'd personally take the President's word for it over Robert Novak's since Novak is really only a media-mouth.)
Well, we'll know one way or the other soon enough since one of the "under the radar" events of the week is/was Plame's suit against Dick Cheney, Karl Rove and Scooter Libby for costs and trauma -- or whatever-- resulting from her being outted from the CIA after her name was published by the news media, in particularly, Robert Novak's "scoop." She also added ten unnamed administration officials in her accusations, and we know (previous posting) that Novak has not yet identified his "primary source."
With all that's happening in the Middle East, this one nearly slipped by. But after all, the entire Middle East situation indirectly stems from the misinformation used to get us into Iraq -- which was the whole reason that GWB and Cheney wanted to get back at Valerie Plame's husband (Joe Wilson) for publishing his tell-all op-ed article back in 2004.
This little itsy-bitsy law suit may be the proverbial straw that brings the camel to its knees.
