The CIA and NSA "leak" stories become murkier ...

What was written in the Washington Post seemed to say one thing, but what I heard US Representative Peter Hoekstra (photo to the right) saying loud and clear on Meet the Press was quite something else, at least from what I heard and saw in his eyes and body language.

In one breath the prominent Republican (Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee) was saying, in effect that the CIA was setting President Bush up in all of this leak crap that we have been following and then, in the next breath, he was popping some dissatisfaction with President Bush for not having disclosed an entirely different program -- different from the NSA warrantless eavesdropping program and the more recent electronic "money-following" program that has the New York Times being accused by other prominent Republicans of treason, among other things -- that should have at least some Congressional oversight.

My God! I wonder what the intelligence agencies are up to now! Some of what I am reading in Suskind's book, One Percent Doctrine, fits with what I have been hearing and reading from Mr. Hoekstra.

To quote Mr. Hoekstra, he said, "... there was at least one major -- what I consider significant -- activity that we had not been briefed on that we have now been briefed on. And I want to set the standard there, that it is not optional for this president or any president or people in the executive community not to keep the intelligence committee fully informed of what they were doing."

He added that he believed a law was likely broken when the Administration failed to notify his Committee on this one program, especially. He stated something along the lines of "they can't brief us on every little detail," but that this one program is a biggie! (I can't even imagine what this program might be, but I'd start checking the toilets around your house for bugs.)

He also jumped on the CIA for its having a "dissident faction" that is out to get President Bush. (???)

Holy lord! Who is safe from our own Government, if not even the President is?

More to come on this story -- for sure!
