The War in Iraq now exceeds length (in time) of World War II in Europe



And it won't be long until it exceeds the entire US involvement in World War II. The statistics below are thanks to Hearst Newspapers (specifically, the Detroit Free Press) They are in chronological order. And some of you wonder what depresses me ...


• Revolutionary War: July 1776 to April 1783 -- 81 months.

• War of 1812: June 1812 to December 1814 -- 30 months.

• U.S.-Mexico War: April 1846 to February 1848 -- 22 months.

• Civil War: April 1861 to April 1865 -- 48 months.

• Spanish-American War: April 1898 to December 1898 -- 8 months.

• World War I: April 1917 to November 1918 -- 19 months.

• World War II: December 1941 until victory in Europe in May 1945 -- 41 months -- and until victory in the Pacific in August -- 45 months.

• Korean War: June 1950 to July 1953 -- 37 months.

• Vietnam War: August 1964 to January 1973 -- 101 months.

• Persian Gulf War: January-February 1991 -- a month and a half.

• War in Afghanistan: October 2001 to present -- 58 months.

• War in Iraq: March 2003 to present -- 41 months.
