Which one is the Macaca? What is a Macaca anyway?

Senator George Allen (right, above) continues to dig the hole deeper. How does that old saying go? ... "Oh, what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive!"

What was it that George Allen first said to poo-poo the matter? "I thought that macaca meant Mohawk" -- or something along those lines, referring to the haircut that S. R. Sidarth (above, left) happened to have that day. What do you think?What makes Allen's original story a little suspect is (1) the haircut doesn't quite match my mental picture of a true "Mohawk," and (2) the word "macaca" has specific meaning colloquially in French Tunisia -- and Allen speaks fluent French -- his mother comes from Namibia (in an area where the word "macaca" is used as an expletive).

Interestingly, "caca" means poo-poo (I won't use the "sh"-word) and "macaca" can mean either the particular monkey that comes from North Africa or "you sh..." or, as most think Allen meant, simply, "poopie-head" -- with some cross-reference to his haircut.


The real question is what does all of this make George Allen look like?

Certainly not a 2008 Presidential candidate and maybe a loser in his current race to hold on to his Senate seat. He also managed to make a comment about where S. R. Sidarth came from -- he said, "So welcome, let's give a welcome to Macaca here. Welcome to America, and the real world of Virginia." Sidarth was born and raised in Virginia and Allen was born in California.

He later said that his remarks were "misunderstood by the media."
