Paycheck Fairness Act
Paint me EMBARRASSED!!!
I received a little comment from Serenissima that caught me off guard. After watching Commander-in-Chief -- until it was taken away from its fans by ABC -- I should be well aware that the ERA died after only 35 states ratified it and its time had "run out" for ratification.
And when Serenissima asked me about the Paycheck Fairness Act in a comment on the previous posting, I had to ask her what it was. I had completely forgotten that a watered-down version of the ERA was floating around in Congress -- if it's even still above water.
Well, in any event, it appears that the ERA hasn't entirely "died," and the Paycheck Fairness Act introduced into both the Senate by Hillary Clinton (below left) and in the House by Rosa DeLauro (below right) -- although not amending the Constitution, would go a long way towards allowing (making it "required by law!") our employees to work on an even playing field.
More on this later after I've had time to study the wording of both "acts" as introduced in the Senate and House. I've got to run and head into Aberdeen to watch "Superman Returns" or "Devil Wears Prada" -- one or the other, depending upon a buddy driving over from Olympia.
But back to the issue at hand, and while my mind is on it, why not re-enliven the much-needed Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) ... simply by extending the time required for state-by-state ratification?
Thanks, Serenissima!!
