Criminal Case Number 06 cr 128
Yeesh! I'm no longer sure what I believe or don't believe vis-a-vis the "non-indictment" of Karl Rove in the ongoing Valerie Plame leak investigation. Having listened to at least two lengthy denunciations of Jason Leopold's original story relating to Case #06 cr 128, and having now carefully read Leopold's and Truthout's non-retraction of their original "scoop" story of last week, I'm inclined at least to believe that there was an indictment handed down against Rove by the Grand Jury on May 13, but that it has been "sealed" for reasons (and a length of time) that leaves everyone puzzled.
One possibility is that the Magistrate denied Fitzgerald's request to file the indictment; another is that Fitzgerald gave Rove some much needed time with his cryptic message to Robert Luskin (Rove's attorney) that he had no current plans to charge Rove in conjunction with this case -- in the hope that Rove, in the coming weeks and months, will return the ("political" -- if ever I could use that word) favor.
Whatever the case might be, there does appear to be a "case." Federal Indictment, Case Number "06 cr 28" either exists or Leopold is himself liable to be sued by Rove ... for a bundle ... and I've heard or read nothing along those lines from anyone!
Let's stay tuned to this one; it could be a biggie! And we know the initials of the Big Fish in this one, don't we? "RBC" might just stand for "real bad culprit" or "Republican's Biggest Criminal" or ...

It's so interesting to compare this case to the one against Clinton, where leaks were the norm and even the "little guys" like Susan McDougal were prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

Although my brother, Richard, reminds me that Karl Rove has a wife and family, I guess I would feel more comfortable with him out of the equation for November. As regards your comment, I guess I wouldn't be unhappy if the final upshoot of all of this was the removal of Cheney and impeachment hearings for GWB.
