How time dims the memory ...

This poll taken in Iraq among US servicemen/women during February 2006
(4 months ago)

Zogby Poll shows:

  • * just one in five troops want to heed Bush call to stay “as long as they are needed”

  • * While 58% say mission is clear, 42% say U.S. role is hazy

  • * Plurality believes Iraqi insurgents are mostly homegrown

  • * Almost 90% think war is retaliation for Saddam’s role in 9/11

  • * most don’t blame Iraqi public for insurgent attacks

  • * Majority of troops oppose use of harsh prisoner interrogation

While back in September 2003:

Header//President Distances Himself From Remarks By Vice President

WASHINGTON, Sept. 18, 2003 (CBS)

(CBS/AP)
Quote "We have no evidence that Saddam Hussein was involved with the Sept. 11 attacks." President Bush

(CBS/AP) Distancing himself from remarks by Vice President Cheney, President Bush said Wednesday there was no evidence that Saddam Hussein was involved in the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001 — disputing an idea held by many Americans. "There's no question that Saddam Hussein had al Qaeda ties," the president said. But he also said, "We have no evidence that Saddam Hussein was involved with the Sept. 11 attacks."

A Mediawingnuts Question: How is it that more than 75% of all Americans in 2006 understand that the war in Iraq and the terrorist attacks of 9/11 are unconnected, whereas "almost 90%" of our military in Iraq are of the opposite opinion?
(What exactly are our young men and women in harm's way being told in their pre-deployment training?)
