Did one of you ask, "What is/are five sigmas?"





Oh yes, while I'm at it ... here's a photo that one of the CERN scientists took of the proton collision with his Android Tablet.
 


The answer in a sentence is that five sigma significance is a probability of 0.000028% that the Higgs Boson is a false assumption, but the data suggests it anyway. I'd recommend you read the article at an older notification of the Higgs work at CERN. . . . and then read the BBC article at this more recent article published by BBC News. for an update. Of course the conference in Melbourne, Australia next month will provide the last--well, next to last anyway--word on the matter (no pun intended)! The diagram below shows the general meaning behind "sigma."
